🙋 Volunteer With Us

Welcome

The Seabridge Primary School PTA is a lively group of volunteer parents, carers and staff who bring ideas, energy and skills to support our school community. We've been running for many years and were registered as a charity in 2017.

We run events throughout the year — including Fireworks Night, the Summer Fair and termly discos — raising vital funds that go directly back into enriching the school experience for every child. Any amount of time you can spare to help is valuable and appreciated. We're parents and carers just like you!

About Us

Who we are and what we do

Why Does Our School Have a PTA?

Our group is called the Seabridge Primary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and has been running for many years. It was registered as a charity in 2017.

We're a lively group of volunteers who bring many ideas and skills to the group. We're parents and carers — just like you! Any amount of time you can spare to help is valuable and appreciated.

We run a number of events each year, including Fireworks Night, the Summer Fair and termly discos.

Our Purpose

  • To support the social side of school life by raising as much money as we can to enhance, enrich and improve learning experiences for children
  • To provide those little extras that make school memorable — such as transport to the Christmas pantomime and a summer term disco
  • Each year we ask the school for their wish list, which includes things like playground equipment, sporting facilities, science equipment and much more!

Our Aims

  • To bring the communities of school and home closer together — because it makes sense for parents and carers to be involved in the life of their chosen school
  • Providing enriched experiences for our children
  • Engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils
  • To meet new people and have fun!

How We're Structured

The PTA is run by a committee who are all volunteers — a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary — supported by the Senior Leadership Team within the school. The PTA is then supported by a wider group of parents, grandparents and carers who help with events and fundraising in a variety of ways.

We'd love to hear from you! Email us at [email protected], send a message via our Facebook page, or come along to one of our meetings.

Volunteer With Us

There's something for everyone — whatever time you have

Ready to Get Involved?

View all current volunteer opportunities and sign up at our volunteer portal. It only takes a couple of minutes and makes a real difference to our children and our school community.

View Volunteer Opportunities →

Why Volunteer?

The PTA is only as strong as the people who support it. Every event we run, every sale we hold and every pound we raise depends on the generous time and energy of volunteers just like you. You don't need to commit to a regular schedule or take on a big role — even a couple of hours once a year makes a genuine difference.

Volunteering is also a great way to meet other parents, carers and staff, get involved in the life of the school, and be part of creating memorable experiences for the children of Seabridge Primary.

ℹ️ About DBS Checks

Some volunteer roles — particularly those involving working directly with children in school — require an enhanced DBS check. Many roles don't require one at all. When you sign up or are briefed for a task, the PTA committee will let you know whether a DBS check is needed for that role.

🎪 Events

Our events — Summer Fair, Christmas Fair, Fireworks Night and more — are our biggest fundraisers and need the most hands. There's a role for everyone:

  • Planning & Organisation — helping to plan events, liaise with suppliers and keep things on track in the run-up
  • Set-up & Take-down — getting the venue ready before the event and clearing up afterwards
  • Running Stalls & Games — staffing games, activity stalls and refreshment areas on the day
  • Shopping & Procurement — buying supplies, prizes and materials for events
  • Raffle Prizes & Sponsorship — approaching local businesses for prize donations or sponsorship
  • Welcoming & Stewarding — greeting visitors, managing entry and helping people find their way around
  • Promotion — putting up posters around school and the local area, sharing event information on social media

👕 Pre-Loved Uniform Sales

Our Pre-Loved Uniform Shop is a fantastic resource for families and raises funds for the school at the same time. Volunteers help with:

  • Sorting and quality-checking donated uniform items
  • Organising, racking and pricing stock
  • Staffing the sales and taking in new donations

🍦 Frozen Fridays

A popular treat for the children on sunny Fridays! Volunteers help with:

  • Buying and managing frozen lolly stock
  • Selling lollies at school collection time

💐 Mother's Day & Father's Day Gift Making

One of our most heartwarming activities — helping children create a special handmade gift for their family. Volunteers help with:

  • Supporting children in school during craft sessions to make their gifts
  • Wrapping and preparing finished gifts
⚠️ DBS required: Gift-making sessions take place in school with children, so an enhanced DBS check is required for this role. The PTA will advise on this when briefing volunteers.

📣 Promotion & Communications

  • Putting up posters around the school and local community
  • Sharing PTA news and events on social media
  • Helping to write or design promotional materials
  • Selling raffle tickets to family and friends

📋 Admin & Committee Support

You don't have to be on the committee to help with the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the PTA running:

  • Minute-taking at meetings
  • Helping with emails and correspondence
  • Organising and coordinating volunteers
  • Supporting the committee with administrative tasks

🔨 Practical & DIY Support

If you're handy with tools or enjoy making things, we'd love your help!

  • Building and repairing stalls, games and equipment for events
  • Maintaining PTA assets between events
  • Practical tasks in the run-up to and during events

🏫 School Events & Trips

PTA volunteers play an important role in supporting school events and trips, working alongside school staff to help things run smoothly. Roles vary depending on the event but can include:

  • Accompanying and supervising children on school trips
  • Supporting staff at school-run events and activities
  • Helping with logistics and organisation on the day
⚠️ DBS required: Roles involving working directly with children in school or on trips require an enhanced DBS check. The PTA will confirm this when briefing volunteers.

🏃 Sports Day Refreshments

The PTA runs a refreshments stall at Sports Day — a great way to support the school on a key day in the calendar while raising funds at the same time. Volunteers help with:

  • Setting up and running the refreshments stall
  • Buying and managing stock
  • Serving families and supporters on the day

💡 Something Else?

Have a skill or idea that isn't on this list? We're always open to new ways of doing things. Whether it's photography, web skills, baking, design or something completely different — if you think you can help, we'd love to hear from you.

Projects We've Supported

How your fundraising makes a difference

What the PTA Has Funded

We always try to respond when asked to help the school, and after the work is done, it's so rewarding to see the children enjoy new resources and equipment. Over the years, the PTA has funded and supported:

  • Author visits for pupils across the school
  • Coaches for the annual Christmas pantomime trip
  • Substantial donations towards the Bonanza Day celebrations
  • The Key Stage 1 timber trail
  • Curriculum items for Early Years cohorts
  • Equipment for forest schools
  • Playground equipment and sporting facilities
  • Science equipment and classroom resources
  • And many more funding requests throughout the year!
Every penny raised by the PTA goes directly back into supporting our pupils and the school. Thank you to everyone who has supported our events and fundraising over the years!

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the PTA

A PTA — Parent Teacher Association — is a group made up of parents, carers and school staff who work together to support their school. PTAs organise events, raise funds and help build strong links between home and school. They are found in thousands of schools across the UK and play a vital role in enriching school life for children.
FAQ-01
The PTA is run by a volunteer committee, elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The current committee includes a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. All committee members are volunteers who give their time freely to support the school community. The current committee can be found on the Committee page.
FAQ-02
Membership of the PTA is open to any parent, guardian or carer of a pupil attending Seabridge Primary School, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff currently employed by the school.
FAQ-03
The purpose of the PTA is to advance the education of pupils at Seabridge Primary School by developing effective relationships between staff, parents and others associated with the school, and by engaging in activities or providing facilities and equipment that support the school and advance the education of the pupils.
FAQ-04
The PTA organises fundraising events throughout the school year — including Fireworks Night, the Summer Fair and termly discos — and uses the money raised to provide resources, equipment and experiences that benefit every child. Each year the committee asks the school for their wish list, which has included things like playground equipment, sporting facilities, science equipment and much more. Every penny raised goes directly back into the school.
FAQ-05
Every member of the PTA present at a general meeting is entitled to one vote on every issue. The Chair of the meeting has a second or casting vote in the event that votes are equally divided. Voting is by a simple majority of the votes cast by members present at the meeting.
FAQ-06
The AGM — Annual General Meeting — is held once a year and is open to all. It is the main opportunity for members to review the PTA's activities and finances, elect the committee for the coming year, and have a say in how the PTA is run. The committee must hold an AGM each year, with no more than 15 months between successive AGMs.
FAQ-07
The committee must hold at least three meetings during each academic year. Meetings may be held in person or virtually, and all committee members must be able to see and hear all other participants at virtual meetings.
FAQ-08
Yes — the committee has the power to co-opt additional members to fill vacancies that arise during the year or to bring in members with particular skills. The total number of co-opted committee members must not be more than 50% of the total number of all other committee members. Co-opted members serve until the date of the next AGM.
FAQ-09
Committee members are elected at the AGM. Nominations must be made in writing to the Chair at any time before the election is completed — ideally before the AGM itself. Each nomination must have the consent of the nominee and be seconded by another member. If no nominations are received before the AGM, members present at the meeting may nominate someone (with their consent), and that person can be appointed by a majority vote. Where there are multiple candidates for a position, the matter is decided by a simple majority of votes cast at the meeting. If you are interested in standing, please contact us at [email protected] before the AGM.
FAQ-09a
We'd love to have you on board! You can view all current volunteer opportunities and sign up at volunteer.seabridgepta.org.uk. If you'd like to find out more before signing up, drop us an email at [email protected].
